What To Look For In Art Shops For The Beginning Artist}

Submitted by: Phil Sanders

Art is a hobby that many people all around the world enjoy and love. Add to that the number of people who can appreciate despite not being able to produce art and you have millions of people that art connects, in a way or another.

Trudging Art Shops for Beginners

Beginning artists should keep in mind that, aside from the inherent talent that art requires, they should also be experts at finding the right art tools in the right art shops. Art shops are literally an artists heaven. Different tools and equipment are present there for the artists to buy. But it should also be noted that, brands and fancy tools do not really matter in producing great works of art.

An artist needs to pick only the right equipment from amongst the hundreds displayed in art shops in which he/she will be able to produce brilliant artworks. Art shops are awesome because they are one-stop shops for art tools, from the cheap ones to the fancier ones. The important thing, always, is to buy what you can afford.

Drawing and Sketching Tools

Art can be found in the most unusual of places. This is why most artists always have in them a trusty sketch pad or drawing paper whenever inspiration strikes. Drawing ad sketching tools should be the first ones on the list when buying tools in art shops. These include:

Drawing Pencils

There are basically two types of drawing pencils that one can find in art shops: the H pencils that are hard and the B ones that are soft. Everything else is a variation of the two. Beginning artists should have these drawing pencils in tow: a 2H pencil, an HB, a 2B and a 4B.

2H pencils are for sketching whilst an HB and 2B are for shading. The 4B pencil is for darker borders and shadows. With these pencils should also come a sharpener, any sharpener from the art shops, as long as it is sharp, will do.

Bond Papers or Sketch/Drawing Pads

Of course, you will need something to draw on. A ream of bond paper will do or, if you have the funds, sketching pads are very handy for artists who are always on the go.

A set of pastels and paint

The next step to making an artwork, after all the preliminary drawings are done, is to provide the colour and design of the sketches. Different sets of pastels and paints are almost always present in any art shops. Beginners can buy a pre-determined set for themselves.

Another option is to look for art shops that have open paint selection and sell individual colours. These may be more cost efficient especially if one will only need a handful of pastels to colour their works.

Being an artist will always take constant practice with various style and designs. These essential tools are needed for artists to begin their foray into art. They are available in any art shops for beginning artists to acquire.
